Sprout up: COLLEGE Volunteer OPPORTUNITIES
Sprout Up is a program of Environmental Volunteers founded in 2009 by undergraduates to instill a love for learning and an ethic of sustainability in our youth.
Our environmental science & sustainability program links teams of college-student instructors with 1st and 2nd grade classrooms for weekly activities, experiments, and discussions that explore the relationship between humans and the natural world.
In the past decade, Sprout Up has grown from teaching 25 students in a single classroom in Santa Barbara to teaching more than 30,000 students across California and in New York City! We have also provided leadership development and training to over 3,500 college-student volunteers across our 9 active college chapters.

Sprout Up is excited to partner with motivated college students with a passion for equity and environmental change to deliver Sprout Up’s program in elementary schools local to their college or university.
By joining Sprout Up as a chapter leader or classroom volunteer, you’ll develop critical leadership, education, and environmental skills, make a difference in your community, and empower the next generation of environmental stewards.
We’re excited to grow our organization into new colleges and universities across the country, and we invite motivated college students to get involved!

Here is what some of our Sprout Up chapter leaders have to say about why they loved being part of the program!
My students were inspired to go home and make a difference!
Given the current state of our environment and lack of environmental education in NYC public schools, the work we’re doing is critical.
The future will be brighter because of Sprout Up!
