Environmental Education for the Next Generation
The Sprout Up program provides free, college student-led programs to 1st and 2nd grade classrooms in under-resourced public schools.
Sprout Up and Environmental Volunteers envision a future where sustainability is embedded in our every decision, from the boardroom to the grocery store and everywhere in between. College student instructors lead weekly lessons in 1st and 2nd grade classes to help children understand the role they play in protecting our planet. We’re planting the seeds for a more sustainable future, from the youngest members of society up. Sprout Up has taught more 30,000 students across California and in New York City. Instructor Team
5 college student volunteer instructors
6 - 8 weeks
Each instructor team teaches a series of lessons in the same classroom
Duration
Lessons typically last 1 hour
Interactive activities and experiments that foster critical thinking about the world we live in.
Small group learning that promotes student participation and active engagement with subject matter.
Youth-to-youth encouragement that brings education to life and empowers young people to make a positive impact on their surroundings.
Unique curriculum that aligns with standards such as Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS), Common Core, Education and the Environment (EEI) Principals and California State Standards, enhancing existing classroom activities.
