Note that not all opportunities are available at all times of the year.
Teen Docent Program
Environmental Volunteers’ Teen Docent Program, for youth ages 14-18, is a year-long program that supports our EcoCenter Programs, including Open Hours and our public Science and Nature events. This program is not currently accepting applications for new participants, but we hope to reopen it soon. Teens interested in this program should fill out the Interest Form below.

Why be a Teen Docent?
- Learn from environmental education professionals
- Experience a non-profit setting
- Meet like-minded friends
- Interact with a diverse public audience
- Practice public speaking and teaching skills
- Share your love of nature with others
- Learn about the Baylands (and other local environments)
Commitment
- Volunteer at least twice a month (~3 hours each shift) with the option of volunteering weekly in the summer.
- Volunteer for at least one full year (May-May)
- Attend at least one additional meeting, training or enrichment each quater throughout the year
Application Info
We are not currently accepting applications for new program participants, but we hope to soon. Complete this Interest Survey to help us get this program rolling again, and to get on our mailing list for updates. Please check back soon for further updates.
Ready to apply?
Although we’re not currently accepting applications, here’s what you can expect when this program reopens:
- Each interest applicant must complete our online application. When open, applications must be received by April 1st to be considered for the following school year.
- Complete and submit at least one letter of recommendation form (from a teacher, coach, employer, academic counselor, etc).
- After April 1st, Staff will reach out to schedule a short 15 minute interview.
Interviews will be scheduled on a rolling basis and completed by May 1st of the open application year. The Teen Docent Program will begin mid-May each year, and run through the following May.

One-Time Volunteer Opportunities
Throughout the year, the Environmental Volunteers may host single-day/stand-alone volunteer opportunities for adults, families and teens. Youth ages 14-18 are invited to participate in these opportunities with parental permission. Upcoming events are posted below, and in our General Events section.

Greet visitors and share about Baylands ecology and other hands-on science education

Community and Outreach
Help deliver public programs at the EcoCenter and in the community at tabling events, after school programs, and more!

Projects
Projects may include working on educational materials, participating in Baylands Restoration, nature art activities, and more.
